Dave and I are still doing lots of flyfishing for trout as we wait for the rivers to get a good flush-through. Although we’ll fish for barbel a few times when the conditions are right the pair of us are now looking forward to getting stuck in some good chub on the Ribble this winter.

What a lousy summer it’s been for river fishing. Yes, I know you can still catch fish in low conditions, but our local rivers look so sickly it’s just put me off fishing them.

And I have to say we’ve enjoyed the trout fishing and yesterday I notched up another PB with a brown trout of over 5lb. I caught it from Pennine Trout Fisheries on a white buzzer at a depth of 4ft.

The rules there don’t allow you to weigh any fish you’re not knocking on the head and you’re not allowed to photograph them either, so it’s with regret that I couldn’t record the exact weight or take a picture of it. But all five people who saw the fish agreed that it was over 5lb.
