Overview

Most Anglers have the problem of not being able to secure Micro Shots to Thicker main lines of 0.20 – 0.30mm Diameter. Traditionally Micro shot is cut with a standard V which works perfectly on fine lines but tends to fly off when squeezing on to Thicker Main Lines.

Shot in position

The New Dinsmores THICK CUT Auto-Shot solves this problem.

Using a Dinsmores Auto-Shot you are able to cut the shot with a special Thick Cut. The unique Auto-Shot design enables you to individually cut the shot with a wider cut that will squeeze easily on to Thicker main lines.

Auto-Shot will only work with Dinsmores very soft Super Soft Shot made with very tight diameter tolerances.

Thick Cut Auto-Shot is available in size 8 & 11.

Jeff Woodhouse’s Verdict

For once I have quoted the manufacturer in full for the overview.

This is the story of how the product came about. Firstly, you will remember I reviewed the standard Dinsmores Auto-Shot applicator last November (Dinsmores Auto Shot ) and said then how good a product it was then. Well, apparently not everyone felt that way –

Blade comes down and then cuts shot

Nigel (boss of Dinsmores) takes up the story – “We received a phone call from an angler claiming that his Auto-Shot wasn’t closing properly around the line. He asked where we were and because he was fairly local, he came into the factory and let us have the applicator.

We took it into the back room where it was tested and proved satisfactory. When given this information he asked what sort of lines had we used to test it on. As always we tested it on 2, 21/2 , 3 lbs breaking strain lines at which point he said ‘No, I want to use it on 10 lbs line for big double figure carp on the pole.’

This gave us a problem because his demands were outside the parameters for which the product was designed. However, on went the thinking caps and now we have solved it.”

This is it. The Thick Cut Auto-Shot WILL apply a standard no. 8s or no. 11s shot onto lines from 0.20mm up to 0.30mm, that’s from around 4lbs to 10lbs or even more. For example, I have tested both sizes of shot on the new Kryston Snyde 11lbs line, which has a diameter (and I checked this) of exactly 0.30mm!

Nice wide cut for thicker lines

Now, in all honesty, I have never before in my life applied a number 11s shot to any line of any diameter, they’re just too small and fiddly and being a glasses wearer I can’t even see the shot half the time let alone the split in them. However, I can say that with this applicator not only can I apply a no.11 shot successfully, I can apply it to a 0.30mm line AND it closes fully AND it will not ping off AND I can do it in seconds, every time!

This means that those pole anglers targeting the larger carp in commercials can now use no. 8s and no. 11s split shot to balance out their finest of floats. But is this the only use for it?

ATTENTION all you barbel anglers! Recently there’s been much talk of trotting fine stick floats down the river for the barbel. For this task you will require fairly hefty line, 8lbs or 10lbs even down to the hook link. So what will you use to attach the shot, say a 4 x no. 4 float, with 8s shot strung out shirt button fashion to this diameter of line with?

Look no further, the answer is right here! So whether you are a keen commercials match man or a traditional specimen barbel angler this product will suit you.

FishingMagic (Graham Marsden’s) Verdict

I can only agree with Jeff. I’ve tested this product (no. 8s only) on lines with the diameters it’s recommended for and it works very well indeed; much better than I expected. It’s quick, easy to use, and the shots stay put until you want to move them. I can’t find any fault with it and at £ 9.99 I reckon that’s good value.
