The conditions changed in the night. There is now a light rain and a good wind blowing into the dam end of the lake where Terry and Lobo are fishing. Lobo had a 14lb grass carp and Terry lost a big fish at 4am.Late afternoon yesterday I netted a nice common of 21lb 12oz that took a Mr Wriggles Caviar and Black Pepper boilie, and in the night I had a really ferocious fight with an unknown creature that I’ll tell you more about when I return home. Suffice to say that at one stage I had to get it out of the tree!

Young Mattie, who is fishing the small, square lake, which is home to a good head of lesser carp but with little, if any, chance of a monster, has done well with a good few carp from upper doubles to about 25lb. So far it looks like he made a wise decision when he decided to move off the main lake.

Yesterday evening Lobo came round and treated a group of us to a singsong on his guitar and mouth organ. We treated him to a constant supply of Scotch and when he went away later it was a case of one step forward and two steps back!

Lobo is a bit of a character. Back home he spends several months every year bivvied up on Terry’s Burton Mere lakes fishing for carp. His wife and family visit him at the weekend. But more about Lobo too when I return home.

As I write we now go into the night with just a few hours left before we have to pack and go for the ferry. It looks like the change in conditions has come too late, but who knows, maybe we will catch a real biggy just before the fat lady sings.
