Environment Agency fisheries staff have recently completed an operation to clear vegetation from the banks of the river Tern at Market Drayton. The cleared areas are ‘pegs’ on the Agency’s free fishery near the town and their clearance means better access for the town’s anglers.

The free fishery runs downstream from the Walkmill Bridge to the sewage works. Anyone in possession of a valid rod licence is free to fish along this stretch of the river, which has a good population of coarse fish and trout.

The Environment Agency has ten free fisheries in the Midlands and they are considered ideal locations for both experienced anglers and learners.

The Agency has recently introduced its ‘Rivercall’ service, providing information on river levels in the Midlands. The number is 0906 619 7744 (calls are charged at 60p per minute at all times).
