Millions of blokes would rather go fishing than go to bed with the missus

And a survey of 1,000 of the UK’s four million anglers reveals 46% have lied about the size of a catch to impress their friends.

A massive 75% of those questioned confessed they would prefer a day playing with their tackle than a night tucked up in bed with their wives or girlfriends.

And 53% said they would rather catch a record-breaking trout or salmon than spend a night with the likes of Kate Moss or Naomi Campbell.

The survey was released today by bookmaker Totesport, sponsors of last Saturday’s Fish’O’Mania XIII, angling competition.

The survey also revealed fishermen spend eight times as much money on fishing equipment as they do on gifts for their partners – £ 1,729 compared to £ 208.

And they spend on average three days a week out of the house fishing, 49% for the relaxation, 23% socialising, 16% competing and 12% for the time spent alone.

Totesport spokesman Paul Petrie said: “It is odds on that there are fishing widows the length and breadth of the country that can relate to these results.”
