Flavour’em Strawberry Bait Bags are a world first in the fishing market as the film used to make them is actually manufactured flavoured and not just impregnated or coated with the flavour. They completely alter the characteristics of what people know to be standard PVA. PCI are the only people in the world that can achieve this very difficult process and it has taken a long time of painstaking research and development.

The first question is why. Why would anyone want to produce a flavoured PVA bag when the bait that it’s going to carry is probably already flavoured?

The answer is due to many anglers fearing that the bitter taste of PVA could be an appetite turn-off and cause the carp to associate this bitter taste with danger.

PCI, the manufacturers of Flavour’em Bait Bags, say, “Some people are already saying, ‘Why not just put a flavour into a normal PVA Bag?’ We feel that these people have missed the whole concept of the bags. The whole point is that if you put flavours into standard PVA bags you are still getting the standard PVA bag taste, alerting the fish of potential danger. With Flavour’em Bait Bags you do not get this bitter taste, there is just a lovely strawberry flavour. We have reinvented one of the best fish catching tools in the business by getting rid of a bitter taste that the fish can associate with danger. This is the reason that we have called them Bait Bags and not just PVA bags as they are an entirely new concept.”

The Bait Bags have been designed to burst open in approximately 30 seconds in 10 degrees of water temperature, holding the flavour and colour around the bait for a considerable amount of time. It took a long time to achieve a dissolution rate that we were happy with for both winter and summer fishing conditions. It does not matter what type of bait is used in the Bait Bags, whether it be fish, fruit, or boilie the feeding response is the same as it is the Flavour’em Bait Bags that is stimulating the fish to feed.

PCI added, “as with all ground-breaking revolutionary ideas, they can take a while for people’s natural scepticism to disappear as such radical concepts upset their natural routines and beliefs. All we can say is that people said mobile phones would never catch on! We believe that this is the future, once people try them they will find they are a fantastic fish catching tool and will put many fish on the bank for them.”

So what about the price, we asked, considering the Bait Bags are somewhat more expensive than standard PVA bags of similar size.

“Some people might think that the price of Flavour’em Bait Bags is high and that is because they have not realised what has actually been achieved. This can be summed up in one statement when someone says to us “It’s dear isn’t it?” and we answer “Compared to what?” Flavour’em Bait Bags cannot be compared to anything that has been or is currently on the market. We cannot stress enough the point that this is a world first and has never been achieved before.

“We are currently testing our next all-time classic flavour and will not be releasing it on the market until we are sure that is worthy of sitting next to our classic strawberry.”

FISHINGmagic VERDICT

There is no doubt that this isn’t just another PVA product that has been sourced from one of the usual wholesalers and sold under yet another brand name. This is a completely new product where a lot of thought and expense has gone into its production and marketing.

Of course the key question is, ‘do they work’?

And the next question is, ‘do they work so much better than standard PVA to justify the extra cost?’

I don’t know the answer to those questions yet, as that will come only after a more prolonged spell of using them. I do know that they have not been given a nominal impregnation of flavour as they absolutely reek of strawberry. You can smell it even before you open the packaging and I was thankful it wasn’t something like Monster Crab.

They certainly dissolve in good time, even in cold water, and the first time I tried them I caught chub, and a friend who tried some for me on a commercial carp fishery caught a fish with every bag, but didn’t when he used a standard PVA bag.

It’s too early to give them a star rating, but my first impressions are definitely favourable. These are the bags that were part of the 20 Ready Bucket prizes from Flavour’em in a recent FISHINGmagic competition, so we should know more about them when these prize winners rate them in our User Review section.
