Relum Product manager and big fish specialist Paul Garner fished a Cambridgeshire gravel pit and caught a 12lb 9oz bream.

Paul, the Fishing Doctor, who hails from Suffolk, used what is popularly known as ‘Eric Edwards’ rigs’, which is a long bomb length and very short hooklength paternoster rig. Bait was triple red maggot to a 14’s hook tied to 4lb Sufix Invisiline, which is a fluorocarbon mono.

The fish is a record for the county and is only the second bream to come from the water in ten years. Paul said, ‘Although there are a number of specimen tench in the water, and very, very few bream, I was actually targeting the bream in the hope of latching into something special. I’m delighted with the fish, but hope it will not be the biggest one I catch from the water.’

He added, ‘The bream is my tenth double and second 12-pounder of the year so far. It is only my third trip of the year to the syndicate water and I finally broke my duck with a male tench of 6.14. Next day resulted in another male of 6.13. The final morning produced one more bite in the heavy mist, which turned out to be the big bream.’
