GARDNER TACKLE SPIN DOCTOR
Price: £ 2.25 TO £ 2.99

If you’ve ever used a baitboat then you’ll know what line twist is with a vengeance. If you can cast to very long distances you’ll know all about it too. And if you do a lot of fishing off a baitrunner reel then line twist will be no stranger to you either.

But all of us will probably know something about it, or at least have suffered from it at some time or other. It’s a common enough problem with fixed spool reels, and especially if you’re one of those who always uses the baitrunner facility to release line rather than release the anti-reverse or open the bale-arm.

If you do nothing about it, it can get quite nasty, with spirals of line hanging off the end of the rod and, even worse, sharp kinks in the line that are potentially dangerous, as far as losing fish are concerned, if ignored.

The only answer at one time was to strip the offending line off the spool and replace it with new line. Expensive solution that.

But then Gardner Tackle Spin Doctors came along and although not a complete answer to the problem they at least give your line extra longevity. Tie the Spin Doctor to the end of your line (DON’T use a swivel) cast it out, or boat it out if that’s what you’ve been doing, and reel it back in. The Doctor spins in the opposite direction and removes most of the twist in the line.

They’re available in four sizes, 20, 40, 70 and 100g, and the pack includes instructions in their use.

FISHINGmagic VERDICT

Ingenious little device that does as good a job as you could expect. Well worth having one or two in your tackle box.
