Match 3 report – Porth Reservoir, Newquay
After a disappointing first match at Porth for the Real Cornwall Winter League the boys from the Gwinear League seemed to have struck lucky with the venue fishing much better for them.

Cornwall, like most places around the country, has suffered with extensive rain for most of the winter, unlike most parts the air temperature has raised and it is thought that this factor alone lies behind the way the fishing is starting to pick up in the far south west.

Clive Carter (Cocks Tackle) followed up last weeks success at Whiteacres with another stunning performance on peg 89 on the far bank. Clive secured top spot with a mixed silver fish bag of 24lb 4oz. 2nd was Whiteacres resident professional Clint Elliot fishing for Bill Knott Bookmakers and 3 pegs away from Clive but 4lb adrift. Third on peg 88 was Greg Manton (Milo Oddballs) who caught a very respectable 20lb exactly. If you sit next to Clive at the moment it must seem like a death sentence as for the second week he has outclassed those around him.

Top team on the day, (again) was Cocks Tackle Supplies with 36 points. Martin Cocks certainly knows who to go into battle with. Second on 33 were Milo Oddballs, with Bill Knotts Bookmakers, without Bill Knott, 3rd with 29 points.

Overall, Cocks Tackle look strong with 88 points, Milo Oddballs are a class act and are there or thereabouts with 84 points. Simon Pointer and the lads from Retallack Rebels are third and off the pace with 71 points.

Next weekend sees both the Real Cornwall and the Gwinear lads in action. Watch out for the reports.

Till then, read it first on FISHINGmagic, the fastest and most enjoyable way to read fishing news.
