The top price was achieved with a rare Hardy Reel that sold for£4,550. Says auctioneer John Mullock: “This was a HardyCascapedia 3/0 durallum-multiplying reel, made to 3.75″ diameter, itwas the last model to be introduced in 1937.”

Reels commanded strong prices throughout the 700-lot auction, heldin the Midlands last month, with a rare Hardy all brass “perfect”25/8″ wide drum, known as the Houghton, exceeding the guide price,selling at £2,700. A rare Fishing Gazette, 4.5” Brass Winch reelsold for £920, while a Hardy first model Bougle achieved£1,350 and a Hardy all brass perfect 3.75 Salmon Reel withspecial perforated aluminium drum sold for £1,600.

An exceptional P.D. Malloch plaster cast of a Tay Salmon, whichwas finely hand painted and mounted in mahogany and glass sold for£3,400. Says John: “Between commission bids, some of which werefrom overseas, and plenty of activity in the auction room on the dayit was an exceptionally good sale with many items exceeding guideprices.”

A tackle case and photograph expected to sell for£150-£200 pocketed £360, while a ceramic Royal DoultonBone China egg cup decorated with three fishing figures expected tofetch £55 boiled up to £250.
