Overview

Few pike anglers can claim to be equally at home when fishing rivers, lakes, gravel pits and lochs. Many can boast a mastery of one type of water, but only someone who fishes as widely and exhaustively as Paul Gustafson can have gained the ability to catch specimen fish consistently from all four.

A pioneer of night fishing for pike, with remarkable success, he is a firm believer that barometric pressure with light levels play an important part in determining their movements, even to the point whereby success and failure on a given water can be predicted by studying the weather.

Paul Gustafson has had a passion for pike fishing since boyhood. He has landed many pike weighing over 20lbs, the largest of which was 35lbs and has become a well respected world authority on pike fishing.

Verdict

This is not a new book but is well worth reviewing now we’re smack bang in the middle of the best time of year for pike fishing. It’s worth it mainly because it’s one of the better books on pike fishing.

Paul Gustafson is well known in pike circles with a number of very big fish to his credit from all types of waters. He is reckoned to have had a hand in pioneering night fishing for pike and introduces us to some of his own unique pike fishing methods and rigs.

This second edition has new chapters by Bob Church and Mick Willis (‘Fly Fishing for Pike’) and Gord Burton (‘The Lure of Big Pike’).

The book covers the ethics, feeding habits and methods of pike fishing. It’s an excellent, comprehensive pike fishing tome.
