Finally, after a seemingly long winter of blank sessions, Shakerley Mere in Cheshire is hotting up! But it is still no piece of cake.

Peg choice is still the over-riding factor with only approx 10 pegs out 49 producing regularly, some requiring a 100yds plus chuck.

Fishing towards the smallest of the two islands produced my all-time record of 23lb 2oz and a week later I landed a 23lb 8oz, both mirror carp. The record for the water is 24lb. My friend Steve also landed a beautiful 14lb common which put up a hell of a scrap.

We can only wonder what the summer will hold. If you want any info on Shakerley Mere contact Lymm Anglers or me, Sean Wareing, at sw3043@netscape.net.
