Urban Escapes will offer visitors to the event the opportunity to participate in a range of outdoor activities when it takes place at Lee Valley Showground (M25, J26) from 17 to 19 June 2005.

“Londoners need not travel far to enjoy a healthy outdoor lifestyle,” said Mayor Ken Livingstone.

“As the Urban Escapes show demonstrates, Lee Valley Park, which is just 30 minutes from Central London, offers Londoners the chance to enjoy fishing, walking and cycling in outstanding countryside. As Mayor of London, I am working to safeguard and develop London’s green spaces – the Urban Escapes show, with its array of ideas for leisure and sporting activities in the city, shows the benefits of this.”

Stretching over 26 miles from the River Thames at East India Dock Basin, Lee Valley Regional Park boasts a mosaic of countryside areas, urban green spaces, heritage and leisure sites, country parks, nature reserves and lake and riverside trails.

In today’s frantic world it is difficult to find time to escape outdoors, relax or exercise but Urban Escapes offers an environment to combine all of these activities.

Whether you are a fan of adventure sports or looking for a family day out, Urban Escapes offers a great outdoor and shopping experience.

Urban Escapes zones will include walking, cycling, camping and caravanning, canoeing, specialist angling, boating, adventure sports and gardening.

Those responsible for the event say the outdoor location is its unique point.

Urban Escapes is organised by TJW Events and director Tracy Guerrero said: “Other outdoor leisure shows ironically tend to be held inside exhibition venues.

“Holding our show at Lee Valley Showground means we can give people the chance to escape to the country and really get hands on with a totally interactive show outdoors.”

Lance Bourne, head of marketing at Lee Valley Regional Park Authority said: “Lee Valley Regional Park offers more than 10,000 acres of urban green.

“This means Urban Escapes brings many outdoor opportunities in an environment ideally suited to ‘have-a-go’ and having an active and enjoyable lifestyle not only at the show but also surrounding attractions.”

Numerous companies and organisations have already rushed to ensure their presence at the event and anyone interested in taking part should contact Andrew Price on 01823 250930 or email andrew.price@tjw.co.uk.

Those interested in visiting Urban Escapes should watch out for early bird ticket sales available from January 2005.
