The Art of Fishing’s 2011 Cornish Lure event was immense! Everything on the weekend was  just right with great weather, good conditions and a really brilliant bunch of anglers taking part. The only variable that didn’t fall in o place was the fish!

Well, that’s not entirely true  – well over 100 fish were landed by 55 entrants but the winning bass was a surprisingly small 53cm fish, caught by St Austell’s Mike Symons (who himself had 40+ fish over the weekend). Winner of the species hunt was Kieran Staff with five species in total.

For those that missed it, or are new to it all what is the Cornish lure festival all about?

Basically it revolves around different aspects of saltwater lure fishing. Running as a full catch and release concept the competition/get-together involves a bass fishing section alongside a fun species-hunt. For 2012 there is also a kayak section, and this, and the shore based section, will enable anglers to fly fish if they so wish.

Not at all a serious event, the emphasis is on having fun and exploring the generally clear Cornish waters for all manner of fishies and with a little bit of luck you may even win yourself some prizes!

This is as much a social event as anything and even if you just want to come along to pick up a few tips there will be people on hand to answer your questions and if last year was anything to go by, we’re in for a brilliant weekend!

Whether you’re new to lure fishing or a hardened fanatic, the event is for everyone (bar Cornish professional guides) and prizes reflect this – the weekend is one big celebration of lure fishing.
