Angling reports are still slow coming in, due to the fact that anglers are not yet out and about in any numbers. The weather has warmed a little since last week, however conditions are still not comfortable enough to tempt members onto the bank.

Despite this, the few that are out and about are enjoying action, mostly from small silver fish taking squatts or pinkies on very light tackle. Head bailiff Kev Peers has witnessed such action on Village, New, Grimsditch, Statham and Farm Pools. One report received indicates that good sized roach are coming out of Founders Pool, to pole fished bread punch.

Last Sunday’s Winter Series match on the Sankey Canal at Sankey Bridges proved this water’s form to be similar to most other waters, with tiny roach making up the bulk of the match weights. Winner on the day was Terry Middleton with 1lb-5-0, second was Colin Hall with 1lb-1-0 and Baz Holbrook third with 0lb-5-0.

Pike action on Lymm Dam is far from frenetic, with the week’s best report coming from a day ticket angler fishing peg seven on the Church side. Four fish were landed to sprat, with the biggest just making double figures.Member Ste Daley, has just embarked on a pike fishing campaign. Ste is a very thoughtful, innovative and ordered angler, who will try new and untried methods to gain an advantage over the more widely used methods. Blank sessions do not phase him, as they only serve to bolster his resolve to find the next killer method. He is a rare breed, and I look forward to reporting his future exploits.

I have had no river reports over the last week, please send them in whether or not you have had a good session.

Work parties commenced last Saturday with Grimsditch Mill Pool at Lower Whitley being brought up to tip-top condition, work was also carried out on Village Pool where it will continue during subsequent work parties.

Work party duties continue next Saturday, meeting on Whitley Pool car park at 9 am.

Light duty work party activities take place each Wednesday Night at the Manor Lock, in Latchford.

I can be contacted on 01925 411774.
