25th March 2002

The final match of the Club’s Winter Series was fished last week on New Pool. Despite cold and wet weather conditions the water fished very well, although it will now remain closed until the 16th June.

On the day the match was won by Mark Dineley with 18lb-6-0, made up of a catch of skimmers, roach, chub and two barbel. Terry Middleton came second with 11lb-14-0, with Andy Dopson coming third with 6lb-14-8 and Colin Hall just beaten into fourth place with 6lb-14-0.

The final series placings are as follows, first Mark Dineley, second Terry Middleton, third Andy Dopson and fourth Colin Hall.

Whitley Pool is showing signs of things to come. Member Alan Pinnington has now moved his angling activities from Village Pool to Whitley Pool. Alan has been witnessed landing uncoloured goldfish, carp and the occasional tench.

In an attempt to follow in Alan’s footsteps a number of members are on a mission to catch their first ever double figure tench. You may remember last years report of Alan catching two tench doubles in one session. One such member is Pete Robert’s, who has already landed a male tench of over 7lb.

Carp action is steadily improving with fish coming out of Founders Pool, Village Pool, Belmont Pool, Statham Pool, Grimsditch Mill Pool and, as previously reported, Whitley Pool. This increase in form is likely to be as much to do with an increase in the number of anglers venturing out, as an increase in the fishes willingness to feed. This is borne out by consistent action enjoyed by members who have fished throughout the winter, members such as Phil Wain and Jon Pearson who have hardly failed to catch throughout the year.

Bailiffs have now been geared up to conduct a bailiffing blitz, 2001 membership cards will be withdrawn after the 31st March. Memberships can be renewed at any time during the year, although they must be renewed prior to venturing onto Club waters. Bailiffs will also be checking that all rules are complied with, with particular emphasise on enforcing the litter rule where a no tolerance approach has been adopted.

The last opportunity to earn a 2002 overstamp at a work party, will be on Sunday the 7th April at Whitley Pool, commencing at 9.00 am.
