The fishing character Mr Crabtree and his young sidekick Peter were the brainchild of the grand old man of angling, Bernard venables, now in his 94th year. They began life as a strip cartoon in the Daily Mirror in the 1940’s.

Then a small booklet of the two was published and it went on to inspire many youngsters, and older people, to take up a rod and try fishing.

Now the book is to re-released by Medlar press in August.

Bernard Venables was also responsible for the birth of Britain’s best-selling fishing newspaper Angling Times.
