“The aim in the first programme is to catch a Blue or a Porbeagle shark from the shore, quite a challenge. We only had three days when realistically we needed three weeks,” said Julian, who started fishing when he was twelve years old.

Starting in the Isles of Scilly, this series will take us on a journey around Britain, focusing on the westerly islands of the country. The two keen fishermen will visit the Bristol Channel’s many Islands, Anglesey, islands off the coast of Northern Ireland, the Hebrides and the Shetland Islands.

Julian and Rhys will be fishing for a wide variety of fish from the sea, from rivers, lakes.

 Co-presenter Rhys Llywelyn

Anglesey born Julian and Rhys from Carmarthenshire will be helped by chef Padrig Jones who will cook all the fish they manage to catch, including cod, pollack, wrasse and mackerel.

“I know Padrig well and invited him to take part in the programme. I’m very fond of all seafood, especially the more unusual kinds. We managed to catch many different species of fish off the coast of Wales; it’s a shame that people aren’t aware of the diversity of fish in Welsh waters,” he adds.

Julian and Rhys also visit Anglesey and meet 16 and 12 year old brothers, Siôn and Rhys Hughes, pupils at Bodedern Comprehensive School. It’s a case of boys will be boys as they pair off to see which team can catch the greatest variety of fish – Julian and Siôn or Rhys Ll. and Rhys H.?

“The boys were great fishermen and they’re an example of how popular fishing is on the island,” said Julian, who now lives in Nantgaredig, Carmarthenshire.
