Many of the club summer matches start, plus Phil Watters (drivingforce of the Real Cornwall Winter League) runs a series of Individualmatches on some of Cornwall’s finest waters. For the visiting anglerwho’s into match fishing these matches can offer great fishing, witha good load of lads. Later I will give details and contact mailaddresses if you wish to book in.

Onto the recent matches:-

St Columb AC at Meadowside Fishery, Nr Newquay28/4/01

A great day was had by all, 17 of the counties best anglers(?)turned out for the match and that number includes “Tom Anderson,Bless Him”!

The bad weather kept at bay and after a wet and windy start thesun came out, well you know what they say “the sun shines on therighteous” except Pete Walker he brought his own little cloud withhim.

The winner of the match was Tony Williams with a weight of 42lbs1oz (Carp) from peg 8 using maggot/worm.

Second place was taken by Dave Taylor (St Columb Magic) with 32lbs8oz (Carp) fishing from peg 10 using maggot/worm.

Third place went to Terry Price (Owner of Meadowside) with 22lbs10oz (mostly Carp) fishing from peg 9 using maggot/worm.

The Blind Pairs Golden peg went to Tony Williams and Derek Lillyboth receiving a Van Den Eynde goodie bag.

Threemilestone AC, Langarth Match Lake, Nr Truro29/04/01

Threemilestone’s 6hr match format can be a grueller if you ain’tcatchin, but if you are a visiting angler like Barry Little (PhoenixA) and catching consistently all day it can be a nice place to be. Infact if you are a Phoenix boy the day is good when you come first andsecond.

The warmer weather is starting to improve the fishing no end, butyou still require a peg with good features at TMS. Barry Littlefished peg 15 to win the match with 12lb 6ozs of mixed fish to wineasily from team mate John Shirley who weighed 9lb 4oz. Barry Gillambrought the home club home in third spot with 6lb 10oz. The rest ofthe pack suffered with some weights not reaching the pound marker.

TMS is running regular open matches the last Sunday of the monthplus opens 5:30 till 9pm alternate Wednesdays. If you want any datesyou can e-mail me. Phancock@trecare.freeserve.co.uk

Real Cornwall Individual League, Porth Reservoir,6/5/01

The first round got off to a good start at Porth Reservoir on with26 competitors taking part. The weather was quite kind (if a littlewindy), after consulting Clint Elliot (Whiteacres Fishery Manager),two sections (one on each bank) were pegged.

The fishing was pretty good too with most anglers recording doublefigure bags of Skimmers and Perch.

Top honours went to Graham Curnow (Clive’s Tackle) with 24lb 2ozfrom peg 71. Graham worked with whip and maggot for small Perch andlater added some quality Skimmers taken on the long pole withsweetcorn.

Not far behind came Simon Poynter (Clive’s Tackle) with a similarmix for 23lb 9oz.

Third spot was taken by Clinton Marshall (Bill Knott Bookmakers)20lb 7oz.

Section Winners

North Bank Mike Yates (Clive’s Tackle) 20lb 2oz

South Bank Nigel Sanders (Choice Investments) 17lb 2oz

The next round in 2 weeks time will be on Retallack canal and isexpected to be a bit of a grueller by comparison, but hey! that’sfishing.

Below is the full line-up of summer matches run by Phil, If yourequire further information on any coarse, sea or game angling inCornwall give me a shout, if I don’t know the answer I am sure I knowa man who does!
