Our man Barrie Rickards has had a promotion at work. He now holds the post of Professor of Palaeontology and Biostratigraphy at the University of Cambridge.

Barrie, who would have more letters behind his name if the alphabet had more than 26, has earned the promotion in recognition of his research into the global correlation of ancient rocks, the evolution and biodiversity of plankton and fossil marine plankton.

As well as writing regularly for FISHINGmagic, he also writes a regular column for the Angling Star (a Sheffield based angling newspaper) and his local journal the Cambridgeshire Pride.

He is president of the National Association of Specialist Anglers and the Lure Angling Society. He was, until recently, chairman of the Pike Anglers Club. He is also a director of the recently founded Angling Collection Museum and a consultant to the Shakespeare Company.

So, well done Barrie. See, that’s what you get when your school report doesn’t say ‘Would do better if he didn’t sneak off fishing so often.’ Like somebody’s school report once said.
