There has been a struggle all season to catch the Fishers Green pike, but Dr Matt Naylor caught this beauty of 18lb.

The fish was taken as the water began to clear at the end of the cold snap last week, but there are fears that the species is on the decline in the lakes on the venue and in all gravel pits.

“Whilst unproven scientifically,” say RMC, “many anglers would argue that the cormorant is the single agent most responsible for the decline of pike in gravel pit fisheries.”Put simply, the pike in many fisheries do not have the quantity of prey fish to feed upon that they once did, pike numbers are dwindling and many fish which are being caught are below the weight one would expect for their length.”
