ST. PATRICK’S STREAM

Neil and his magnificent 6.6 chub

As with most rivers the Barbel fishing on St. Patrick’s Stream hasbeen very slow in the cold water temperatures of the past month. However, the Chub fishing has been good with a number of quality fishtaken by those anglers who have been prepared to brave theconditions.

Neil Wayte’s first visit to St. Patrick’s Stream in freezingconditions just before Christmas saw him bank a Chub of 4lb 4oz andhe returned last week a little more confident in slightly warmerconditions.

Neil set up a two Swan Shot link leger and presented a piece ofbread flake on a size 6 Talon Tip hook to 6lb line and on his fourthcast into the first swim he had dropped into a gentle pull on thequiver resulted in the cracking Chub pictured above that weighed inat 6lb 6oz. Neil’s second Chub over 6lb in weight.

Interestingly the Chub came a year and a day after Neil’s first6lb. Chub which was an ounce heavier and from Fishers Green.

FISHERS GREEN

Steve’s 32lb pike

Fishers Green bailiff Steve Leftwich has taken one of the mostmeritorious captures of the season from an RMC Angling fishery withthe capture, before Christmas, of this absolutely superblyconditioned Fishers Green pike that pulled the scales around to 32lb.

The pike came before the freeze that put paid to further fishingon the lakes and beat the long-standing previous best for the venueby 4lb. when it picked up Steve’s deadbait legered at close range.

With its relatively short body and large head the fish has thelook of a trout-water pike and it also looks as if it could hold afew more pounds before it is full…. Well done Steve on a trulymagnificent fish.
