The park will host approximately 1000 anglers who are travelling from a dozen countries to compete in the championship (7-9 March), which takes place along the East Yorkshire coast and is the biggest beach fishing event in Europe, bringing around £500,000 to businesses in the region.

Sand le Mere, which overlooks Tunstall Beach, will also be the venue for the event’s daily weigh-ins, where contestants find out if their catches have given them a chance of scooping one of the top cash prizes.

James Flynn, general manager at Sand le Mere commented:

“Over the past few years we have spent more than £5m on new facilities at Sand le Mere so we are delighted that our developments have helped us to attract and retain such a prestigious event.

Sand le Mere is the perfect choice for Europe’s best anglers. We have comfortable accommodation, evening entertainment and a restaurant and bars serving hot food and drinks – and the whole team will be crossing our fingers that the weather this year will be better than last.”

Kieran Lawry, conference and events officer at East Yorkshire Events said:

“We are delighted to once again host the world’s largest three day beach angling event at Sand le Mere Holiday Village. The facilities on offer are some of the best on the East Coast and last year’s feedback we received from competitors meant it was a simple choice to return.

It is also hugely important for us to keep the event on the Holderness Coast as the £1/2 million the competition generates for the local economy is a much needed boost at this time of year.”
