Following a successful under 18 trial held at Gold Valley Lakes, Aldershot Steve Sanders, Manager of the Sensas U18 England Youth Team, has selected his squad for the World Championships to be held at Castelfranco on Italy’s River Arno; a prolific venue close to the city of Pisa with large stocks of catfish from 1 to 8lb together with mullet and carp.

The team is to consist of: Connor Barlow (17) from Manchester, Ryan Watson (17) from Surrey, Alex Clements (17) from Hampshire, Rory Jones (16) from Herefordshire and Nottinghamshire-based Jake Dye (16).

Mark Downes, Manager of the Drennan under 22 England Youth Team, has also announced his line-up for the World Angling Games in Italy to be held from 28th August to 4th September 2011.

Joining three times World Youth Champion Matt Godfrey are Matt Derry and Cameron Hughes who already have 7 caps between them, James Dent from Yarm and Brighouse’s Frankie Gianoncelli who shone in practice sessions.

Mark Downes commented: “With four 19 year olds in the squad it is a young team but one I’m convinced will bring back a medal from the prolific River Arno. We have been on this venue twice before, bringing back silver and bronze team and a gold individual medal for Paul Starbuck.

“This will be a tough Championship” he added, “but gold is achievable!”
