Homebuilders Wilson Connolly roped in 110 employees, contractors and suppliers for the day at Rutland Water.

The Competitors
Novices and experienced hands took to the water for what was believed to have been one of the biggest competitions of its kind in the country.

Top rods on the day were the Dusty Millers with a 32-fish bag. Second were Lindsay’s Wizards with 30 fish, and third were The Lincolnshire Wizards with 26 fish to their credit.

Organiser Mick O’Farrell, regional managing director with Wilson Connolly, told FISHINGmagic: “We have raised a lot of money for a number of worthy causes, and everyone had a fantastic day.

“Unfortunately for the other competitors, I had an excellent day as I captained the winning team.

“We also ran a lottery alongside the competition, with the first prize of a Thomson holiday to the value of £ 1000, which raised even more money for the good causes.”

The main beneficiary of the event, which was held last September and sponsored by Shakespeare, Fulling Mill and Barbour, was the charity Save the Children.

Winning teams have also nominated three other charities to receive amounts – SNUGS in Milton Keynes, The Brod Hart Trust and the Lincolnshire Ambucopter.

A further event is being planned to take place in September this year. The three sponsors this year are Fulling Mill (suppliers of fly tying components), Shakespeare (suppliers of rods and equipment) and Barbour (suppliers of outdoor clothing).

Presentations to the charities will be made over the next couple of weeks.
