The last few weeks have thrown up some exceptional catches, if you are brave enough to take it. Roger Trembath, from Penzance hooked into a shore caught-personal best 20lb Angler Fish, from, wait for it, Loe Bar? Only last week I reported that Loe Bar was the mark when stormy, and sure enough Roger did not prove me wrong. He used a squid-lug cocktail to tempt the new beast of Bodmin Moor. Well done boy.

Camborne’s Graham Chegwidden is leading his clubs (Camborne AC) Bass specimen table after adding to his recent catch list with a superb 9lb fish caught from a secret mark? I feel sea anglers could learn a lot from the coarse anglers when it comes to information giving? What I mean is, any silly bugger can send it towards the ocean, the real skill is at the terminal end, bait preparation and well balanced end tackle catches more fish all the time, you have to learn that part by putting the time in. So come on sea boys give us the low-down cos I will blow the whistle every time.

Mawnan Smith AC, (posh part of Cornwall) is holding it’s Open Flounder event on 10th December. Entry fee is a reasonable £ 3:50, £ 1 optional super pool. Sign on points, Falmouth’s Tackle Box, Atlantic Tackle Helston and County Angler Camborne. Weigh-in is at the Boslowick Inn, Falmouth (nice pint) Cornish Fed one-day rule applies to this match.

Stuart Athay of Atlantic Tackle in Helston reports that good flounder are showing up the Camel river, this will make Rick Stein (personality chef from Padstow) happy, as anyone who watched his recent TV show will know.

Whiting have been showing well from Loe Bar, although hopefully there will be better catches of cod after the recent heavy seas. Young Chris Adlard (12) of Porthleven caught an impressive 2lb 4oz 4drm flounder from a mark in the Gweek area. This fine specimen fell to ragworm hook bait.

Chris Bird tells me Chris Mead from Penzance was recently fishing from Newlyn pier for conger, had had some success, with a 2lb 3oz three bearded rockling. The fish was tempted to half a mackerel on a 5/0 Viking hook. Maybe Chris should fish for rockling in the future.

Finally, to sea in a boat. Pete Rappo, aboard his own craft Pickerel, recently caught a personal best cod of 9lb 6oz from a wreck mark in Falmouth bay. Pete was so made up with the fine specimen catch that some photos taken with his pride and joy showed him kissing the beast. When I get copies I will let you all see them.

Andy Thomas of the Tackle Box, Falmouth has been taking it easy after the recent busy summer taking care of local and visiting angler’s needs. Andy caught up on some fishing of his own and fishing again in Falmouth Bay in his own craft landed 11 good size pollack, three of which were doubles with the best weighing in at 11lb 8oz.

Fishing in less than 70 feet of water, all the fish were safely returned to fight another day.

If you are going to fish in Falmouth Andy is the chap to have a word with, his number at the shop is 01326 315849.

Well that’s it for this week, storms up and it’s time to go wrecking. Catch you all soon.

Keep it tidy and keep it tight.

Paul.
