The Extended Feeder BoomOften for barbel fishing I like to use a very fine limp braid such as Kryston’s Super-Nova or Fox’s Mega Silk, both in 12lbs. The trouble with these fine braids is they tangle easily when you have longer than normal hooklinks, ie, more than 12 inches.What I have done is to take an idea from a John Roberts’ boom and extend it. You will need to buy some long stiff John Roberts tubing, it’s about 15 inches long, and some John Roberts’ feeder clips attached to the small bead. Cut a length of the tubing to your requirements, between 2 and 8 inches in length, and fix one of the feeder clips on one end. Feed the line through the tube, feeder clip end first, and tie it to a no.10s (or 11s) swivel. Assemble a hook with a hair rig or any other type of hook knot to a length of fine limp braid. Then, using a baiting needle, pull the loose end of the braid through a Korda Anti-Tangle tube and tie it to the no. 10s swivel. Push the Anti-Tangle tube over the swivel’s eye, but not over the swivel, and also flatten the stiff tube a little and push that over the opposite eye of the swivel. You still have the use of a swivel, but now have a longer boom extended by the Anti-Tangle rig. Keeps me out of lots of tangles. | ||
