FM’s Junior Angling Academy for National Fishing Week

YES FOLKS, IT’S on again this year only we’ve changed the name to the more up-market ‘Junior Angling Academy’. As last year, though, it’s being held in and with cooperation from National Fishing Week and the date is:

****** Friday 25th August! ******

It is again being held on Intertype Angling Society’s waters behind the grounds of the Grovefield Hotel in Burnham, Buckinghamshire, just two miles from the M4.

The ponds are well stocked with rudd, roach, crucian carp, tench to 5lb, perch, and carp to 10lb, and the best fish last year was a 4lb tench.

Best hookbaits are sweetcorn, soft pellets, luncheon meat and pastes. Maggots will also catch fish, but tiny rudd tend to ambush them as soon as they hit the water. Groundbaits are a waste of time as they put the fish off, much better to feed a dozen or so hard pellets every 5 – 10 minutes.

Graham Marsden and Jeff Woodhouse and a number of other experienced anglers will be on hand to encourage and teach the youngsters.

Who can attend?

Kids from 8 years to 16 inclusive, particularly those that haven’t fished before and wish to learn how. Dads, granddads, uncles, and bigger brothers, etc, are encouraged to stay and lend a hand, but you won’t be fishing – this is a kid’s day. You can register more than one youngster if they have friends or siblings.

What’s the cost?

For juniors it’s entirely FREE! You don’t even need an EA Rod Licence for the juniors as the event is registered with National Fishing Week and the Environment Agency.

Every junior will receive:

A FREE 4metre pole from the Environment Agency and a Goody Bag containing lots of useful items and FREE caps and tee-shirts for the juniors from FishingMagic and Shakespeare, including line, floats and disgorgers. There’s also a copy of the new TCF magazine including a free spool of line for all juniors. There will be plenty of free baits from Dynamite and Braham & Murray Pure Hemp Products.

And there is more to come, including some items from ‘a generous but anonymous FM member’ which we’ll update you with as soon as the stuff arrives.

PLUS:

FREE food at the barbeque lunch in the hotel grounds for all the kids (last year it was burgers, sausages and ribs followed by a dessert and should be the same again this year). Adults (mums and dads) will be charged a nominal £ 10 per head for the lunch this year to help with the expenses, but it is well worth it and far better value than the fast food chains.

How do you enter?

Send an email to graham@fishingmagic.com or tvaa.fisheries@ntlworld.com with your home address and number of adults attending and youngsters being entered.

Wet but happy!

Entry form(s) will be sent to you on which you nominate the youngster(s), this must be completed and returned in advance for us to comply with the NFW and EA rules.

Places will be awarded on receipt of the entrance forms. We have places for just 20 youngsters so it’s going to be a case of first come first served.

Parking is being provided in the hotel car park which is secured with a code that is required to get out!

Don’t forget, be quick as we were oversubscribed last year.

And just pray for decent weather!
