Jigs are probably the best all round and versatile lures available today. A Jig is a very simple lure concept utilising a large single hook with a lead ‘head’ moulded around the eye and a soft plastic body shape impaled upon it. It is ideal for working along or near to the bottom for predators and especially suited for difficult times such as cold water or coloured water conditions when they are reluctant to come up for a bait. They are incredibly versatile though and can be retrieved mid water, fished vertically or even trolled. The Fox range has a lure to suit any situation you’ll come across.

Ideally you should have a selection of sizes and colours because predators can sometimes be particular in their choice although most times predators will attack a wide range of patterns.

Which model?
Many soft plastic baits are soon ripped to shreds by sharp teeth but these Fox Shads have been made with durable bodies yet without the stiffness that would detract from their movement. Fox supply a spare body with each jig and spare packs of bodies too.

The Hook

The hooks are very sharp, which is essential for this technique, and have good strength and point retention.

The Head

The lead head is designed to keep the jig in the strike zone. Fox have maximised its potential by adding a reflective finish and large eye feature. At rest it is shaped to allow the jig to sit upright on the bottom giving it the appearance of a resting or feeding prey fish.

There are six patterns with four sizes in each pattern, with weights of 16g, 20g, 45g and 70g.

A pack holds an opaque body, a jighead, and a translucent body of the same pattern.

CARL BRADLEY’S VERDICT

They look good, feel good, and must look good to the fish, for I’ve caught lots of perch, chub and pike on them since investing in a few variations of them.
