A new series about an angler, a river and its fish is due to start on BBC Radio 4 on Sunday 27 July, 14.45-14.59. It will run every Sunday afternoon for five weeks.

Graham talks about the Dove and the fish that live in it in a new series to be broadcast on Radio 4 in July
The series, ‘The Philosopher, the Fish, and the Dove’ is about Izaak Walton, his beloved river Dove and the fish that live in it.

The series is introduced by actor and angler Geoffrey Palmer, with several anglers taking part, including yours truly.

It promises to make good listening, for the series is not about how to catch fish (although there are plenty of fishing tips included) but more the thoughts of anglers as they walk the banks of the Dove and talk about Walton, the Dove and the fish.

I spent two hours walking the river and talking about fishing; if they use only a fraction of the time I spent talking about the good and positive things in angling then it will have been well worth it.

More about the series closer to the time.
