First Look Review

The concept of the Rainbow Fishing System, which has been designed and manufactured in the UK, is that different colours represent different depths of water and hence different rigs.

The colour-coded tape, at the heart of the system

The Rainbow Depth Gauge contains a unique 4 metre tape that is divided into 12 sections, each section being a different colour. The first section is white and represents the first and shallowest depth, the second section is green and so on. There is a matching colour winder for each colour on the tape.

Preparation: A rig (line, float, hook and shot) is setup for each colour and therefore for each depth. For example the first rig is measured to the same length as the ‘White Depth’ and is wound onto the ‘White Winder’. The second rig is measured for the ‘Green Depth’ is wound onto the ‘Green Winder’, and so on for each of the twelve colours and winders.

The weight

Set up: The Rainbow is securely attached to the end of a fishing pole and is lowered into the water, at the spot to be measured, until the weighted tape finds the bottom.

Using The Rainbow: The colour section on the tape at the water’s surface will be the colour of the winder to be used. That winder will have been pre-wound with the correct length of rig for that depth.

Set down: When the fishing is finished for the day, the rig is re-wound onto the correct winder ready for use next time.

The Rainbow System is described in much greater detail on the Rainbow website: www.therainbow.co.uk.

FISHINGmagic VERDICT

Using the Rainbow System

Certainly pole anglers may have been waiting for something like the Rainbow System for some time to help them organise the many and varied pole rigs they have made up in their tackle boxes.

The system helps to take the pain out of plumbing a swim and then setting the float to the exact depth. This still has to be done of course, but the Rainbow System makes the operation easier and then makes it simpler to organise that particular rig for future use.

Well organised pole anglers will love it.
