The Shakespeare Ladies Championship – Biggest Prize Ever

THE WINNER OF the Shakespeare Ladies Championship, being held as part of the Evesham Fishing Festival in August, will go home £ 1,000 richer.

Total prize money of £ 2,000 is up for grabs in the championship, which will be staged on the legendary Evesham stretch of the Warwickshire Avon.

Several of the England Ladies Team are expected to compete in the competition, just two weeks ahead of defending their world championship title in Portugal.

But Lewis Hammond, chairman of Wychavon Council’s angling festival working group, said everyone had a chance of winning something.

“Fishing is obviously a test of skill, but this is a one day competition and all sorts of factors come in to play,” he said.

“In a way, it’s a bit like a third round F.A. Cup tie, where the Premiership teams can come undone against a lower league side.

“The competition is a fantastic opportunity for lady anglers to test themselves against the cream of the country’s lady anglers with the possibility of a big money prize.

“We are looking forward to receiving entries from throughout the country and we can assure everyone a very warm Evesham welcome.”
