SPLICING

I only use the spliced loop for the swivel end of the lead core, as I think the ‘Keith Moors’ knot is a superior way of attaching the mainline anyway. See link to ‘Keith Moors’ Knot below.

Step 1

Step 1 – Strip back 6″ or so of leadcore and pass the splicing needle through the bottom 2″

Step 2

Step 2 – Pull the remaining leadcore back through. It can be difficult, but you’ll find that if you roll the leadcore between your fingers as you do it, it can be a bit easier

Step 3

Step 3 – You’ll have a tag end sticking through……SLOWLY pull the loop so that the tag end pulls into the hole

I normally leave a tiny bit of the “fluff” sticking out – not enough so that a bead would jam up on it though – and singe it with a lighter. This helps to make it more secure without the need for glue. It’s important to note that I only do this as I use it at the swivel end, and the type of lead arrangements I use wouldn’t be able to jam anyway.

Step 3

With swivel fitted

One of the advantages of the loop is that its very quick and easy to change hooklengths / end tackle without the need for cutting knots off and wasting the leadcore.

About the Rigs Page

The Rigs Page is a library of features to illustrate all those rigs that will be useful to both beginners and experienced anglers.

The rigs can be extremely simple and well known, or very complicated and little known, it doesn’t matter providing they make some kind of sense and have a really practical application.

It could be a standard running leger rig that a beginner will appreciate seeing in pictures, or a very complicated anti-eject carp rig that the experienced carp angler would like to see.

If you wish to contribute a rig to this section please remember that the emphasis is on illustration rather than words. Good line drawings are fine in the absence of photographs. Please send to graham@fishingmagic.com
