I had never given much thought to reel cases before. Until recently, I had only one, a superb black leather case for a medium sized reel made by B. Speak of Clitheroe. Then I came across a multi-reel case from Stonefly and solved twin problems of organisation and tidiness; I can now keep all my reels and spare spools together rather than in a motley collection of bags and boxes.

The Stonefly reel case looks, superficially, like a small, neat weekend case. It is attractively designed in the corporate colours of black and green with the logo embroidered in gold.

It will hold 10 reels and/or spare spools in adjustable compartments, the dividers of which are held in place by velcro. Thus, if extra room is required for, say, a salmon reel or a large arbour reel, the adjustment can be made quite easily to allow extra room.

I already possess a Stonefly fishing bag so I know that I have a robust, reliable and stylish peice of equipment. The zips that open and close the case are large and strong with big tabs that can be gripped easily by cold and less sensitive fingers at this time of year. What a blessing; there’s nothing more irritating than a tiny tab that that you cannot feel through frozen fingers.

I now keep all my reels together in the case and transfer them from my fishing drawer at home to car boot where I make my selection prior to fishing and selection of the appropriate rod on the day. I firmly recommend the Stonefly reel case which comes at the favourable RRP of £ 25.00 to suit most Christmas shopping lists.
