A book where Bob Church recounts his vast experience of both game and coarse fishing over the last 60 years.

Bob has long been one of the UK’s top anglers. He has competed in international flyfishing events with great success, made several TV films on fishing and had a record breaking run of 28 years as an Angling Times weekly columnist. With numerous books to his credit he was also voted Game Angler of the Millennium by the readers of Trout Fisherman magazine.

Now in semi-retirement Bob has taken a look back at his fishing life, a story that is sure to be of interest to any angler, no matter what his persuasion.

His list of achievements is extraordinary. In coarse fishing he was a very successful specialist angler and a founder member of the Northampton Specimen Group. He was a member of the flyfishing England team that won the world championship in 1987 and 1988, won silver in 1984 and bronze in 1987. In 1990 he won European team gold and individual bronze and was made captain for the |Home Counties International (when they won gold) and team manager in 1991 and went on to manage England in 10 further internationals.

FISHINGmagic VERDICT

Bob Church is an angler’s angler, one of those men who can turn their hand to any kind of fishing and be successful. Not just successful but better than most.

I can’t claim to be a personal friend of Bobs, although we’ve met a few times and I fished in the same team as him when Coarse Fisherman magazine organised a specimen hunters Vs matchmen event on the Warwickshire Avon many years ago. I think Bob finished in the top three and my claim to fame was that I beat Ivan Marks in his heyday off the next peg. What a line-up that was, Bob Church, John Wilson, Ivan Marks, Des Taylor….but that’s another story.

If it swims then there’s a good chance that Bob Church has caught it, and what he’s done for stillwater trout fishing is tremendous. He is as good a coarse fisherman as he is a flyfisherman, and can catch enormous barbel just as well as he can catch big trout.

The book is Bob Church’s fishing life, just as the title says, and it makes excellent reading, bringing back some fond memories. Lots of good stories, plenty of good pictures and, above all, a damn good read.

A must-have book for any angler of any persuasion.
