RMC Angling Specimen Group Records Officer, Bob Hornegold, and his fishing partner Gary Newlands have started to make contact with some of the giant chub which live in the Relief Channel at Fishers Green.

A 6.4 to Bob Hornegold
With the temperatures dropping and the water clearing chub rather than barbel have been feeding on the Old River but the best of the fishing has been on the channel where Bob weighed in this beauty of 6lb 4oz.

Bob described the fishing as difficult and he and Gary have been fishing hard and moving regularly in order to keep in touch with the fish.

Not to be outdone by Bob’s big chub Gary Newlands went an ounce better to record this specimen of 6lb 5oz during an overnight session.

And a 6.5 to Gary Newlands
Both Bob and Gary have been fishing M-Tech boilies for their fish and have been picking up some good bream and carp along the way too, although the carp fishing has been very slow over the past fortnight.

Almost constant high and heavily coloured water made for tricky angling for the Fishers Green chub for much of last winter but the signs are looking good this season and fish of over 7lb are likely over the coming months.

If you fancy a night after the Fishers Green chub please remember that night fishing on the Relief Channel is by prior booking only. All bookings for the Xmas and New Year period will be taken on the morning of 21 December 2001.
