FISHING REPORT – 22nd APRIL 2001

Despite the difficult Foot and Mouth situation, Foremark TroutFishery in Derbyshire has been open for a few weeks now and isfishing very well. The boat fishing is as normal, fishing off thebank is currently restricted to the West bank but don’t let that putyou off, as fish are coming out of all fishable areas. Fisherymanager Colin Lawrenson informs me the fishing this week has againbeen very good with the majority of fish being taken on buzzerpatterns fishing through the top few inches of the water.

Other patterns worth trying are – Gold Ribbed Hares Ear, Black orGreen Tadpole’s, Montana and Damselfly nymphs.Even though the winddirection has been changeable this week it hasn’t affected thequality of the fishing which remained consistent.

Flamingo Bay and Verduns Point have again proved to be the mostpopular areas for both bank and boat anglers. Catches have includednumerous 5, 6 and 7lbs fish which were mostly taken on small patternshigh in the water. However don’t overlook the Slipway area and DamWall which have also fished well.

Top rod this week was Mr R Coles from Castle Donnington who landedForemark’s largest Rainbow Trout of the season so far. His damselflynymph was taken from the bank at Verduns Point and pulled the scalesround to 9lbs 2oz. It was great to hear that Mr Coles returned themagnificent fish shortly after weighing.

Other patterns worth trying are – Gold Ribbed Hares Ear, OliveTadpole and Montana nymphs.A total of 908 fish were recorded from 270returns. This has given a rod average of 3.36 and an average weightof 2lbs 1oz.

This week’s prospects – The weather forecasters have predictedslightly warmer southerly winds, which should improve fishing evenmore.

Colin recommends looking for fish close to the surface which willbe feeding heavily on the hatching buzzers. Floating lines and buzzerpatterns should be the order of the day to put a few fish in yournet. Or try a heavier pattern or damselfly on the point with lightlydressed buzzer patterns above to work just under the surface.
