Gwendolyn hauled in no less than 22 fish at the Who Cares tournament – the biggest catch of all 20 boats even if it didn’t provide the winning fish.

The 45-ft Hatteras yacht, captained by Codney Capron, caught a mix of tuna, wahoo, mahi mahi, cero and barracuda, the weightiest being a 25lb barracuda caught by Anne Thomasson.

Gwendolyn, at 45 feet the largest sports fishing charter boat in the Turk & Caicos Islands, was joined by its sister GSC boat Wahoo! at the all day event.

Skippered by Kermain Stubbs, Wahoo! landed a 35lb fish of the same name – just five pounds short of the one caught by the competition winner Four Aces.

Gwendolyn, combining air-conditioned comfort with the power of two Detroit 871 engines, conquered rough seas throughout the event which began at sunrise.

Grand Slam Charters, based at Providenciales – the main island in the Turks & Caicos Islands – was also the toast of the evening’s entertainment after donating its bumper haul to local people and to a ‘fish fry up’ for all the competitors.

Geoff Thomasson, GSC Chief Executive, said: “We had a great day and even though we didn’t win our haul made for a big spectacle at the dockside. Although the sea was rough, our comfortable boats were well suited to the conditions.”

Fishing enthusiasts are now looking forward to the next major tournament in the islands: the Wahoo International on January 16, 2010 with a $10,000 prize.

Geoff said: “As the professionals’ choice for charter fishing in the Turks & Caicos Islands, with experienced crews and great boats, we are open to offers to charter both Gwendolyn and Wahoo! that day.”
