John Lock from Hampshire, a member of the Shark Anglers Club of Great Britain, caught a baby mako shark off the east coast of Cornwall during the club’s annual festival in Looe.

The jaws of a deadly mako shark
News of the capture brought fear that there could be more of these lethal fish in the area, for the mako is one of the most deadly sharks in the world, reaching a length of more than 12ft and a weight exceeding 500lb.

They are known to be one of the fastest sharks there is, with jaws that extend from the mouth when biting with a slicing, shearing action. They are well known for attacking boats and divers.

Experts on sharks say that the warm water will be encouraging them to return to an area where they haven’t been seen since 1978.
