Round 4, Whiteacres 24/02/02

Recent stocking of the lakes had put 4500 small carp in Pollawyn and 1800 in Python so I for one was very much looking forward to this match. Sections were pegged on Sycamore, the high bank on Pollawyn and the wides on Python. Drizzly rain that looked set to stay all day and the wind forecast to increase did their best to dampen the enthusiasm as the draw took place. As the match progressed the rain stopped and the wind increased as forecast but with Pollawyn fishing its b—–ks off nobody minded too much. It looked like there would be some very big weights recorded.

Overall winner on the day was Dave Taylor (St Columb Magic) who recorded an incredible 142lb 4oz from peg 27 on Pollawyn. Dave used the pole at 6m with corn over groundbait. Second place went to Bait Bunker rod Marcus Watts on Pollawyn 15 with 126lb 8oz. The winning method was, again, pole at 6m but with double red maggot over groudbait. Using identical tactics from adjacent peg 16, Phil Watters (Newtown Angling) was close behind with 120lb 8oz.The forth man to do the “ton” was John Shirley (Team Newtown) with 106lb 4oz from peg 28. A section on Sycamore was won by Ben Field (Bait Bunker) with 38lb 10oz from peg 9. C-section on python went to Pete Walker (St Columb Magic) with 79lb 14oz from peg 9.

Top team on the day was St Columb Magic dropping just 1 section point for a 38 point total. Second team was Newtown angling with 33 just ahead of league leaders Bait Bunker on 31.
