It weighed 8lb 14oz and was netted by Dartford, Kent carp angler Rob Tough from a private southern lake.

The current record is 1oz less at 8lb 13oz, a fish caught last year from Dobb’s Weir on the river Lea, but Rob is still not sure if he’s going to make a claim even if the scales pass Weights and Measures checks for accuracy.

Rob freely admits he was fishing for carp at the time and said, “my capture doesn’t have the same merit as the current record.”

Rob caught the fish on a boilie at 120 yards range and incredibly it was the second big chub in successive casts. Just 30 minutes earlier he had landed a huge chub estimated at over 7 1/2lb.
