To begin with I was a little disappointed, partly because of the title, which reflects a football cheer rather than angling and the Mecca of carp fishing, and partly because the opening music seems entirely inappropriate to me – it is jingly, jangly, and slightly gladiatorial, again more suited to some other sport.

Although the anglers involved in the presentation were fully aware of the historical context of Redmire, and mentioned this several times, I thought the opening sequences could have given much better coverage of this aspect. And the beauty of the water could have been better shown in the same context, that is showing us the Willows Pitch, or whatever. Of course the camerawork showed the beauty of the lake all the way through the film, but I think an atmospheric opportunity was missed early in the filming.

Steve Broad and Martin Locke present the video and although they begin a little shakily the presentation gets better as it goes along, most of it is clear and excellent, and the finale, as they walk away from this paradise, is very well done indeed – far better than the endings of so many videos. I know I shouldn’t complain about accents, but this Estuary English, spoken by so many in the media today, really is full to bursting with terrible clich
