KORDA HYBRID RUNNING RIG
Price: £ 2.99 for a pack to make 5 rigs

The Korda Hybrid Running Rigs are a collection of bits to make up a running rig system. The pack includes five each of:

Large eyed Korda Ring Swivels
Camo Green Shock Beads
Camo Green 3mm Silicon Sleeves
Non-Reflective Kwik Links

The parts make up a running rig system that is for the most part tangle-free and easy running, and also offering a quick change method for leads/swimfeeders and hooklinks.

“The Korda Hybrid Running Rigs are a crossbreed of the best parts of modern running rigs. The large eye of the special swivel creates very little friction greatly enhancing bite indication.” Say Korda.

What I’ve found to be the great advantage of this wide-eyed swivel is that it makes it much easier to make a running rig that is not a tether rig when a shock or abrasion resistant leader is being used.

Enough items to make 5 running rigs

No doubt Korda had carp in mind when they devised these rigs, but I had barbel in mind when I saw them. I’ve been experimenting with incorporating an abrasion resistant leader in my barbel rigs; a 2ft length of Korda IQ 25lb fluorocarbon mono, upon which the running rig runs. This serves two purposes, it offers a greater wear resistance on the section of mainline where the heavy swimfeeder or lead runs, and offers a greater safety margin should a barbel manage to just penetrate any snags in the area. The hooklink is still the most vulnerable part, but the next most vulnerable is the couple of foot of the mainline.

Whatever knot you use when tying 25lb fluoro to a 0.030mm diameter line the knot is too large for the ring of a standard swivel to pass over, and therefore if a breakage occurred it would be a tether rig. And that’s where the Korda large eyed swivels score most heavily in my book, for they have eyes that pass easily over the largest knot. This knot also makes a good stop for the flying backlead.

And yes, I do know that the rig is meant to be used with tubing, which would be abrasion resistant and also anti-tether. But what I wanted to do was make my presentation as inconspicuous as possible, hence the use of fluoro, and yet still offer a degree of abrasion resistance. And a length of fluoro, which is naturally denser than ordinary mono and definitely more dense than braid, is more likely to lie flat on the bottom than a tube that can trap air inside it.

FISHINGmagic VERDICT

Not had any problems using these running rigs from Korda and they do the job they were made for, plus the bonus of the large ring enabling me to make a safe rig.
