**Real Reviews by Real Anglers**

There are a good few different makes of sounder boxes available today but on reading the advert this one promised to be a bit different on two fronts. The first being its price of £ 24.99 which included a more than ample 30ft three way cable, a three year guarantee, and the promise of it being waterproof. Plus a pouch to keep it in!

The second being that it is a little different. It has the usual run LED which is more than bright enough as well as a powerful speaker that has both tone and volume adjustments, but instead of just this, as many boxes in this price range offer, it has a very natty LED readout screen numbered 1 to 3.

The overall construction of the box was impressive enough; no gaps, a positive sliding battery cover, and even a bank stick adaptor fitted to the back and not as part of the main body.

I planned to use it with my Delkims, and then realised that owning Delkims means nothing else is compatible! Still, I changed the plugs over (obviously I do not recommend that people do this – legal part out of the way), tested it out, and away I went, the box in excellent working order.

So how did it perform? I must first mention that on both occasions when I used he sounder box the weather was just right for a test, howling winds and prolonged heavy rain that normally entails increasing the volume on the heads to make sure if you do get a run you don’t miss it, but the same time you didn’t really want to be in and out of the bivvy attending to false alarms.

Now not being used to a sounder box I kept feeling the need to glance over and check the LED readout. It hadn’t quite sunk in that I would hear it as well!

After a while I forgot it was there but then it certainly let me know! The hairs on my neck stood up and I was out of the bag in one movement! Thank god for the volume button.

In the dense blackness of the bivvy the No.1 stood out for all to see and I was out and into my first fish. Now I am not going to make claims that it helped me catch more fish but I can certainly say that it made sure I didn’t miss any runs and, in appalling conditions, I put six fish on the bank.

One thing that the bright LED readout did make blatantly clear was that the right hand rod No2 was the most popular during the night – handy little idea those LED’s.

I will certainly not be without it on future long sessions that’s for sure. If I had to find a fault then I would say that it was the reset button for the LED. I found you could pull this off and as I didn’t want to lose it a dab of glue made sure it stayed where it should be. So a very easy and cheap cure to the only flaw I could find and at the price it was a very minor detail indeed.
