Former Angling Times columnist Fred Wagstaffe, aged 64, was found dead in his home in Leicester where he lived for the past 20 years.

Fred, whose exploits with Bob Reynolds in their boat ‘The Black Pig’, fired the imagination of many young specimen hunters in the 60’s and 70’s, was co-founder with Bob Church of the Northampton Specimen Group.

Fred was an all-rounder but was best known for carp and pike fishing and was no mean flyfisher. He was one of the first anglers to bring lure fishing to the British piker.

Two years ago Fred was the victim of a nervous breakdown and did little fishing since then.
